Lee Hood: Join Dr. Fauci, Leading Vaccine Developers, and Me to Discuss the Effect of COVID-19 on Healthcare #PMWC21

I would like to cordially invite you to join me to discuss the 21st Century Healthcare Ecosystem Catalyzed by COVID-19. COVID-19 has made it clear that we need new healthcare structures to deliver fast and efficient clinical care.

Recognizing the urgent need to organize research, review policy, and exchange frontline experiences in the care of COVID-19 patients, the PMWC will host a free (by Dec. 31) virtual COVID-19 Conference on January 25-27. Our speakers will spotlight the rapidly changing science, policies, and practices related to the pandemic. As the industry is shifting from the current legacy (“fee-for-service”) system to “value-based” healthcare, COVID-19 both disrupted and catalyzed this transformation. This healthcare crisis offers an opportunity to rethink our entire healthcare ecosystem to make it better through more efficient care protocols, population management, vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutic solutions.

Our understanding of SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 disease changes almost daily. I suggest harnessing the “COVID crisis” as an opportunity for all healthcare stakeholders to demonstrate the value of a new system that is driven by the realization that 21st medicine should focus on optimizing the health trajectory of each individual through deep phenotyping and its ability to decipher both wellness and disease. As such, we need fundamental changes (Call to Action):

  • A health data platform to collect, share, and analyze diverse, high dimensional data types from individuals participating in COVID-19 clinical research and trials
  • An integrated data solution to enable and improve interoperability which will require standards across clinical and research sites, as well as data generated in patients’ homes
  • A partner ecosystem to use this data to develop services and products for COVID-19 with benefits spanning across all aspects of 21st century medicine
  • Real world evidence (RWE) as part of the clinical and regulatory submissions process
  • Un-siloed clinical trials data that includes adverse events and treatment response data integrated into patients’ medical records

Any health system that incorporates this type of innovative big data computational platform will be able to:

  • Lay the foundation for science-driven healthcare
  • Intervene upstream from disease with unrivaled precision
  • Conserve capital by leveraging partner contribution
  • Manage cost by leveraging the opportunity arising from deep science

COVID-19 is a fundamental healthcare disrupter – clinical trials have been initiated very quickly, drugs have been approved quickly, and diagnostic assays have been launched quickly! This sense of urgency has demonstrated what is possible for a healthcare system and this model can be leveraged for the future of industry and regulatory agencies.

PMWC 2021 Silicon Valley COVID-19, Jan. 25-27 will take place in its traditional time slot, the third week of January with several exciting sessions:

The COVID-19 pandemic compels leading experts from across disciplines and geographies to come together. Only together, can we innovate as a response to the disruptive nature of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 induced pandemic and its impact on our healthcare system and our society.

The tasks upon us are enormous! Our speakers will discuss how to harness the “COVID-19 crisis” as an opportunity across the healthcare ecosystem –providers, payers, biopharma, and CROs to demonstrate value by adopting 21st-century healthcare practices:

  • Lay the foundation for science-driven healthcare
  • Understanding virus biology using deep science
  • Scaling diagnostics
  • Building next-gen health data platforms
  • Accommodating clinical trials in the era of COVID-19
  • Developing and testing functional vaccines and therapeutics

I hope you can join this engaging community to discuss the latest developments and opportunities arising from COVID-19. Please join today: 1.pmwcintl.com/covid/
