Biography
Ysabel Duron officially launched The Latino Cancer Institute (TLCI) in 2019, her latest venture. The California based Institute connects Latino cancer serving agencies nationwide to share best practices and develop capacity; convenes events for stakeholders in the cancer landscape to provide opportunities to collaborate with cancer researchers focused on Latino cancer challenges; advocates at a national level to raise awareness of Latino cancer issues, promote policy, and attract major funding stakeholders. Duron is a recognized key opinion leader about Latino cancer and community engagement issues. A 43-year award-winning TV journalist, Duron retired in 2013 to dedicate full-time to addressing the Latino cancer burden. Duron serves on the Independent Review Board (IRB) for the All of Us Research Program for the National Institutes of Health, the former Obama Precision Medicine Initiative. She was recently appointed to the Board of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, (CIRM), a taxpayer funded initiative supporting stem cell research.

Biography
Lisa Goldman Rosas, PhD MPH is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health and the Department of Medicine, Division of Primary Care and Population Health at Stanford School of Medicine. An epidemiologist by training, Dr. Goldman Rosas’ research focuses on addressing disparities in chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, depression, and cancer among racial/ethnic minority families. This research features rigorous quantitative and qualitative methodologies, participatory qualitative approaches, and shared leadership with patient and community partners. She is passionate about integrating patients, caregivers, community organizations, and other key stakeholders in the research process in order to affect the greatest improvements in health and well-being. Dr. Goldman Rosas serves as the Faculty Director for the School of Medicine Office of Community Engagement and the Stanford Cancer Institute Community Outreach and Engagement Program. In addition to research, she teaches at the undergraduate and graduate levels and has a special focus on increasing diversity in biomedical research.

Biography
Dr. Fejerman earned her undergraduate degree in Social Anthropology at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina and completed a PhD in Biological Anthropology at the University of Oxford, England. She is the 2019-2020 Chairperson of the AACR Minorities in Cancer Research Council and Leader of the San Francisco Cancer Initiative Breast Cancer Task Force. Her research focuses on the discovery of genetic and non-genetic factors that contribute to breast cancer risk and prognosis in Latinas. Her past work established a relationship between genetic ancestry and breast cancer risk, where higher European ancestry in U.S. and Mexican Latinas was associated with an increased risk. Her subsequent research has built upon this observation, exploring genetic variants, through admixture mapping and genome-wide association approaches. Additional work explores disparities in breast cancer prognosis in Latinas and its potential causes, including access to information, screening and care.

Biography
Dr. Elizabeth Baca is part of the strategy and analytics team at Deloitte to advise health care and life science clients on care delivery innovation in total health and well-being. Previously, she served as the Senior Health Advisor and Deputy Director in the California Governor’s Office of Planning and Research where she worked on a variety of projects to foster health through land-use planning, food systems, precision health and medicine, and big data. She is serving in her second year on the World Economic Forum’s Global Biotech Futures Council.

Biography
Dr. Michael L. Penn, Jr. is founder and Managing Director of Health Equity Ventures--an advisory group and emerging investment fund supporting companies leveraging technology and data to accelerate healthcare transformation for underserved populations. He is laser-focused on advancing the development of talent, technologies, and companies that enable wellbeing for all. He began his career at Genentech working in Marketing and Business Development roles for nearly ten years and was later recruited to become a Vice President at the Gladstone Institutes, responsible for strategy, diversity and mentoring; then later served as CEO of the Gladstone Foundation. He is a co-author of the book Finding Your North and co-founder of the non-profit, Building Diversity in Science—a non-profit that encouraged students of color to pursue careers in science. Dr. Penn was also appointed by former Mayor Willie Brown to serve as one of seven Commissioners responsible for governing San Francisco’s Department of Public Health. He currently sits on the Board of Trustees at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, a Dignity Health community hospital and the Bay Area Board of Summer Search.
