The PMWC 2023 Microbial Profiling Showcase will provide a 15-minute time slot for selected companies in the Microbiome and Pathogen ID fields. The human microbiome is composed of a wide variety of microorganisms that are essential for maintaining human health and preventing disease. Research in this area is accelerating due to the rapid development in genome sequencing technologies. This showcase will present some of the leading companies in microbial profiling and pathogen identification.

Biography
Dr. Nur A Hasan is a molecular microbiologist with experiences in microbial genomics, microbiome, bioinformatics and molecular ecology. Dr. Hasan is an accomplished Executive with experience in strategic development of technology innovation in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and life science industries. In his multidisciplinary research experience, Dr. Hasan led numerous large-scale genomic, metagenomic and microbiome projects that resulted in multiple patents and over 100 peer-reviewed articles on microbiome, biomarker discovery, molecular ecology, and infectious diseases.

Biography
Brice Le François currently leads the technology research teams at DNA Genotek (microbiome devices) and Diversigen (microbiome services) as a Senior R&D manager. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Ottawa and has over 20 years of experience in research across a wide range of fields, including cancer and neuroscience. Since joining the R&D team at DNA Genotek, he has worked extensively on optimizing the stabilization and processing of human microbiome samples. His team spearheaded the development of novel tools and workflows for low biomass samples as well as novel DNA/RNA stabilization chemistries that enable multi-omics analyses of gut microbiome samples and beyond.

Biography
Heidi Hau, PhD, leads business and scientific activities in the US including development strategies, external partnerships and CRO organization and execution. Previously, she’s led cross-functional R&D and translational biology programs across pharma, biotech startups and Fortune 500 companies. She’s worked across scientific and business development groups and directed global external innovation leading technical due diligence for external partnerships that focused on microbiological and molecular-based technologies. Most recently, she led key initiatives to expand investigational microbiota-based drug platforms for the treatment of infections and chronic diseases. As part of this role, she managed investigator-sponsored clinical studies and the led the Translational Biology team responsible for integration of microbiome basic research, discovery and clinical research enabling new or improved scientific understanding of microbiota-based therapeutics and/or assessment of new pipeline opportunities.

He is responsible for driving the strategic vision for One Codex and supporting our globally distributed engineering, research and development, and commercial teams. With a background in computational biology and software engineering, his expertise lies in product and business development at the intersection of software and molecular biology. Prior to his current role, Christopher led the Metagenomics Platform team at Invitae building class-leading solutions for microbial genomics research, as well as advancing the use of NGS in clinical infectious disease applications and developing novel microbiome-based diagnostics.
