Biography
Dr. Camille Nebeker studies the ethical, legal and social implications of emerging technologies (e.g., pervasive sensors, predictive analytics) used in research and healthcare with a focus on informed consent, risk assessment and data management. She leads the Research Center for Optimal Digital Ethics (ReCODE.health), which provides evidence-based resources for the digital health/medicine community. Nebeker earned her doctorate in education and is faculty in the Department of Family Medicine & Public Health, School of Medicine at UC San Diego. She is affiliated with the UC San Diego Design Lab, the Center for Healthy Aging, the Institute for Practical Ethics and the Center for Wireless and Populations Health Systems. Dr. Nebeker’s research has received continuous support from government, foundation and industry sources since 2002.

Technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), are leveraged to understand gene, behavior and environmental interactions – all factors influencing precision health/medicine. This talk will address how we engage participants in the co-design process with examples focusing on technology design, privacy protections and return of individual and group-level research results.
