Biography
Guru leads the development of Viome’s AI-based platform for delivering personalized diet recommendations to deter chronic disease. His focus is on extracting insights from large gene expression datasets, and from clinical studies targeting many disorders including metabolic, gastrointestinal, immunological, neurological, and cancer. He previously led IBM Watson AI Research, and has developed and commercialized advanced technology solutions in multiple industries. Guru is a recognized thought leader who delivered the 2017 Turing Lecture, and has spoken on prestigious stages including the Nobel Prize (twice), the Aspen Ideas Festival, and the Milken Conference. His awards include the Leadership in Technology Management Award from PICMET in 2017, and a National Innovation Award from the President of India in 2009. He has published extensively and holds more than 30 US patents. His work has been featured in international media including the New York Times, the Economist, Wall Street Journal, BBC, and NPR.

Machine Learning from Microbiome Metatranscriptomics Predicts Chronic Diseases
In this talk we present AI/ML models to effectively predict many phenotypes using high resolution metatranscriptomic data from the microbiomes of more than 100,000 people. We also present results from clinical studies to determine individual glycemic response, and chronic disease activity including IBS, Diabetes, and Oral Cancer. Viome uses AI/ML to deliver personalized diet recommendations.
