Speaker Profile

M.D., COO, BIOAGE

Biography
Eric finds and develops high-impact drug targets and biomarkers via deep molecular phenotyping of human cohort samples and clinically-relevant machine learning and systems biology analytic pipelines. He co-founded BIOAGE to apply these strategies to developing therapies to extend human healthspan and lifespan. Eric was previously an assistant professor at the University of Toronto focusing on biomarker discovery and characterization in high-dimensional datasets from human cohorts. He completed an MD, residency, and research fellowship in computational biology, held a Canada Graduate Scholarship from the CIHR, and was subsequently a CIHR research fellow. Eric is a licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Chronic Disease Through The Lens Of Aging: Omics Studies Of Healthy Aging Cohorts Reveal New Drug Targets In Multiple Therapeutic Areas
- Aging is the major risk factor for many chronic diseases, yet target discovery efforts do not generally take this into account
- Deep omic phenotyping of prospective healthy human aging cohorts with decades of follow-up reveals key pathways driving aging
- We find that studying aging directly yields novel and promising drug targets in therapeutic areas including neurodegeneration, cardiovascular disease, etc
